This is the festival season all over our country – we have just celebrated Vijaydashmi, and are moving towards Diwali. Why exactly do we celebrate these festivals? What is the deeper meaning behind them? Vijaydashmi is often seen as the victory of an angel representing the good (Rama) over a demon representing the evil (Ravana), and Diwali as the return of Rama to his birthplace Ayodhya. But are these just historical incidents whose anniversaries we celebrate? After completing Nayak: The Real Hero in 2001, Shankar announced a project with Kamal Haasan and Preity Zinta titled Robo , to be produced by the now-defunct production company Media Dreams . Despite, announcing the project, due to a lack of backing, the project was cancelled and Shankar began work on Boys . In 2005, Shankar made another project, Anniyan , this was mistaken to be the renamed title for Robot . In early 2007, Shankar stated that his next project would be produced by his production house, S Pictures for 3 months. Several websites claimed that he was set to take his maiden Telugu language film with Chiranjeevi , while others claimed that it was set to be with Mahesh Babu . Dr. Vaseegaran ( Rajinikanth ), a professor specialized in robotics , creates a sophisticated android robot in his own likeness after a decade of intensive research. His mother (Revathi Sankaran) suggests him to name it Chitti Babu (Rajinikanth). In the International Robotic Conference - India 2009 , Vaseegaran introduces Chitti to the delegates , who are left stunned by its versatile skills and speed. Later it's revealed that Vaseegaran's mentor, Dr. Bohra ( Danny Denzongpa ) was pre-occupied in a botched research project to create a similar superintelligent android robot. Bohra's experiments turn only partially fruitful and he becomes jealous of Vaseegaran's success.
